Our Programs.
Gateway to retail employment.
2 week program conducted in a classroom and a working retail environment. This program covers all aspects of entry level retail employment from dealing with difficult customer situations all the way through to the psychology of visual marketing.
Gateway to warehouse employment.
2 Week program conducted in a classroom and warehousing environment. Students are taken through the health and safety aspects of working in a warehouse environment practising skills such as correct heavy lifting techniques, warehouse moving machinery guidelines and well as identifying slips and falling hazards.
Merchandising in a retail environment.
7 Hour course looking specifically and in store merchandising techniques. Students review the 4 P's of Merchandising and see how they affect purchasing decisions. Students look at the psychology of why these affect our buying decisions and also different tools organisations use to determines their target audience and how best to reach them. Students are then given money to spend in a retail environment and must present their purchasing decision based on the merchandising principals they have learnt.
Barista Bootcamp.
7 Hours course held at a coffee training facility. This is an intro to Barista skills understanding coffee origins, the growing belt, fair trade as well as grinding and extraction. Students are taken through the inner workings of a semi-automatic machine and grinder to show how each component is key in the perfect cup. They spend a day extracting beans, learning to stretch, steam and surf milk as well as the different styles of coffee and how each is made.
Gateway to hospitality employment.
3 week program conducted in a classroom and a working restaurant, café or bar. Students are taken through all aspects or table service from sit down restaurant to quick service takeaway. Students also have the ability to complete culinary skills such as safe knife handling and cutting along with basic food safety.
Basic Plus First Aid.
6 Hour workplace accredited BasicPlus program. Clients are taken through CPR, AED training as well as cuts, burns, choking as well as first aid assessments for stroke, cardiac arrest and altered mental state.
Rangatira (Leadership) in the workplace.
7 hour classroom course on effective leadership skills in the workplace. Students are taken through the 7 effective leadership styles and which ones they most identify with. From there we work individually on the tools and strategies to achieve the best results using these skills. We work through cultural differences in the workplace and how each one can have different expectations of leadersip and how best to create environment where all feel respected and encouraged.
Nailing the Interview.
7 Hour course held in classroom format. Students learn what attributes employers are looking for when hiring staff. They are taken through areas like ability, availability, fitting into a team culture as well as barriers which may result in the inability to carry out the advertised role. From this information we learn the open ended questions to find out this information along with the types of evidence we can request to confirm it. Students are then paired with false identifications and must interview each other and present to the class their decision to hire or not based on a structured interview process. Afterwards students are taken through other aspects such as their online and social media presence, what this looks like and the types of potential issues employers may see. Finally we work on potential questions that may be asked that are difficult and how best they answer to provide a positive outcome.
